Promoted by Isabella Blow and featured in Tatler magazine’s ‘Livercool’ issue. Corsets by Commissioner are a series of canvas corsets with original paintings by contemporary artists.
The concept is about taking art everywhere, from the red carpet to a dingy basement club. The canvas is stretched over the corset bones similarly as it is around a wooden frame. Each garment is entirely unique and commissions are encouraged.
The Commissioner dressing room installation, where a group of girls get ready for the party as the audience looks on was one of the highlights of that year’s counter culture aconvention. Held in a suite in Liverpool’s notorious Adelphi Hotel, the aconvention brought together Uri Geller, robots, Mark Manning, The Idler, Nietzsche, William Burroughs, Bill Drummond and others in the labyrinthine halls and rooms. The aconvention was part of the Independent strand of Liverpool Biennial 2002. (Images Slideshow 1)
