Potent Funk

I’ve lost count of the the number of people in this business who started out by running a club night and Potent Funk was mine.

Potent Funk ran for six groundbreaking nights in 1997 and by the time it spontaneously combusted we’d witnessed fashion shows, band mashups, vodka jellies, special fairy cakes, a thousand gold and silver helium balloons, an open mic for rappers and soul singers, impromptu percussion breakdowns, poetry, tv documentary crews, mind machines and the kidnapping of Bez.

The main objective of the night was to create an inspirational and naturally stimulating environment making it a very special night to remember.

A retrospective exhibition of photographer Mark Brader’s documentation of Potent Funk was held in the Sick Lizard, Liverpool in 2002.
